Link Partners
Like every web site owner, I’m studying and looking for ways to bring more traffic to my web sites. Truth is, I don’t actually sell anything (successfully) on my site so I do it more as a hobby at this point. Anyway, I’ve come to a couple of conclusions:
- Submitting web sites to Search Engines is an art form, a complete mystery, or some other kind of Voodoo magic. Getting listed on the 1st page may be possible but I couldn’t afford the cost of paying someone who could actually make it happen.
- Having a Site Search Box that allows your visitors to search your site only and displays results found within your site could help your ranking in the search engines. I can’t prove this, but I’ve been using FreeFind and it does a real good job. FreeFind indexes (or spiders) your site and sends weekly e-mail reports of searches that your visitors submit. These reports will provide you with some insight into what your visitors are actually looking for on your site. http://www.freefind.com/
- Reciprocal Links are becoming very popular with the search engines. Two or more related sites link back to each other site in the group. As the group grows, you develop sort of an electronic word-of-mouth network that boosts traffic for the whole group.
According to a December 2000 survey by Stat Market,
search engines only account for 6.86 percent of global referrals while
Internet links accounted for 46.13 percent and
direct navigation and bookmarks accounted for 47.01 percent.
So here are my suggestions:
- Persuade your site visitors to bookmark your site!
- Trade as many links as possible with sites in Carter County and take advantage of local customers who are surfing the Internet. This newsletter is only being to sites that are already linked on my Carter County Web Sites page (A good place to look for your link partners.). Yes, I would appreciate a link on your sites back to this page, but I’m not demanding it and I definitely will not remove your link if you don’t participate. Really, my feelings won’t be hurt, however, I do think that your site would benefit and your customers might appreciate you for offering the link.
- Consider joining the Carter County Site Ring. this is another opportunity to link to several high profile Carter County sites. This is a free service!

You might want to join a site ring for your particular product or service.
- Find sites on the Internet you’d like to become a link partner with and
e-mail a request for a reciprocal link. Before you send a request, build a Link Partner page and have their site already linked.
- I stumbled across a site called Kentucky Gallery which lists Kentucky web sites by category. They’ll list your site for free. A reciprocal link is not required but would be a smart thing to do.
